Controller Options (Novus vs PRO Controller)

STANDARD OFFERING: Novus Controller with 3ft Cord
UPGRADED CONTROLLER: TAP Controller with 6ft Cord

When picking out your Hot Shot Oven, you will have the ability to choose the standard built-in NOVUS Controller or upgrade to our TAP Smart Controller. Below you will find the differences between the two controllers to help make your decision easier.

Novus – The N20K48 series of PID (proportional–integral–derivative controller) temperature controllers have been designed for non-experienced novice users for combining extreme simplicity in operation with quality performance found in expensive high-end controllers. The Novus N20K48 can be operated by simply turning on the oven and setting the temperature needed or you can download the free Novus Quicktune App to be able to program the controller more easily via your phone/tablet. The controller can also be programmed by using the onboard buttons and a series of key presses. The Novus N20K48 controller is limited to only storing 20 programs at a time with a max of 9 segments per program. Check out these Videos on How to Program the Novus Controller:

TAP Pro – The TAP Pro controller is a state-of-the-art, programmable, full color touch screen controller. The TAP Pro can store an unlimited number of programs and can be easily programmed on screen or by using the free mobile app. All Hot Shot Pro ovens come with the Tap controller as well as built in Wi-fi for the ultimate user experience. The TAP mobile App allows the user to easily create and monitor programs in real time and allows the user the ability to set notifications, view firing logs with by-the-minute data points and receive push notifications about the operation schedules. The TAP controller also allows you to see maintenance schedules and offset a program that is currently running!

Power Requirements

Hot Shot Ovens come in several different types of configurations based on your needs. With this comes different power requirements. For 120V, we offer a 15amp and 20amp version on the HS-360C. These require different outlets in order to power the oven. The 15amp is your standard at home outlet. The 20amp outlet however has a slight change to it that one of the vertical slots looks like a sideways T.

We recommend making sure you have the proper outlet and if not to check with a professional about adding an outlet into your work area. DO NOT use extension cords in any situation.
The 15amp model is equipped with an 1800W element while the 20amp model is equipped with a 2000W element. The 20amp version will get up to temperature faster than the 15amp. Note that this kiln is to only be used for Low Temp Ceramics (under 2200F firing temperature) and must be placed in a well-ventilated area.

Making Ceramics

IMPORTANT: Firing Ceramics and applying glazes MUST BE done in a well-ventilated area. This oven is to be used for low temp ceramics that do not need to exceed 2200F. Ceramics are an area of art most of the population knows about. Most of us have had the ability to work with clay in art class during school to create a vase, bowl, sculpture, etc. The endless opportunities from working with clay are amazing to create your work of art. The most important part outside of the design of the clay, is firing the clay. Once fired the clay goes from clay/mud to ceramic and becomes a lot more durable.
What is Firing?
Firing is the process that changes the clay into ceramic form. This ceramic form is strong and more durable. Typically the work is fired twice. The first step is to bisque fire it. Bisque is the term used for this first part of firing. This creates a durable but porous piece of art. The second is to glaze fire the piece. Since the piece is now porous, this will allow the glaze to soak into the piece. The temperature used during firing is all dependent not only on the clay used, but also on the glaze. You must make sure that the glaze and clay are withing the specifications of the kiln being used. If you burn a low temp clay or glaze at too high of a temp, the clay could melt and the glaze could run off and not stick to the piece.
How our Electric Kiln Fires Clay & Glazes
Our kilns are equipped with heating elements that are snaked throughout the 3 sides of the kiln. Coiled heating elements inside the kiln contain an electrical current/movement and cause the wire to heat up. As this wire is heating it causes radiant heat to be distributed throughout the inside of the kiln. This is very similar to your home oven, but at a much higher temperature.
Constructed to last
Hot shot ovens are specifically designed with the end user in mind. Hot Shot ovens feature a full swing side opening door to allow safe and easy insertion and removal of material as well as a cool-to-touch one-handed handle made from high quality stainless steel for easy opening and closing.
Hot Shot ovens are constructed with a high quality powder coated shell. The high density fiber insulation in a Hot Shot oven is machined to high tolerance specifications so that each piece fits perfectly together to provide a proper seal, ensuring that it will maintain its temperature and work efficiently to prevent loss of heat. Each oven comes with a removable high density floor. This is ideal to assist with project setup or if it needs to be replaced.
Hot shot uses Kanthal A1 heating elements, a type K thermocouple and every oven comes standard with a solid state relay at no additional charge.
Advanced Features

Solid State Relay
Unlike many other ovens & kilns all Hot Shot ovens come standard with a solid state relay. Having a solid state relay eliminates the distractive clicking noise that a mechanical relay makes. A solid state relay is also more dependable and provides a longer life expectancy than that of a mechanical relay.
Programmable Alarm
Each unit comes standard with an integrated alarm that can be set to alert the user when a desired point or temperature is reached in the program.

Safety Door Switch
We also have integrated a safety door switch that will de-energize the heating element when the door is open.
Optional Stand
An optional stand is also available for the Hot Shot 360C. With rolling and locking casters it is easy to move the stand/oven around to wherever you may need. Free up your workbench with this stand! An additional Shelf that can be inserted at the bottom of the stand is also available as an option.
Dimensions: 23.5"W x 37"H x 27"D
